Health care in Alberta is administered by the provincial government through 9 different Regional Health Authorities (RHA). In the Red Deer Area, the RHA is called the David Thompson Health Region (DTHR). The DTHR runs the health system that includes family doctors, clinics, hospitals, and emergency care. Other health related services such as dentists, optometrists, chiropractors, and physiotherapists are privately run. Ambulance service is provided in Red Deer as part of the fire rescue services and works closely with the health care system.
Immigrants are eligible for coverage under Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan on the day they arrive in Alberta from another country.
