Government

There are three levels of government in Canada:

  • Federal - The Government of Canada
  • Provincial - The Government of the Province of Alberta
Municipal - Governments of counties, towns and cities (for example, The City of Red Deer  and Red Deer County
Each level of government has certain responsibilities and powers. All governments are democratically elected. Elections are held every four years to choose new municipal leaders. Federal and provincial elections are held when politicians decide.   The Elections Canada website has a good description of how federal elections work in Canada.
